Peeps by Scott Westerfeld (Review)

I read Peeps a while ago in school as a daily reading project and I just picked it up randomly. I do not regret picking it up, it was one of those books that just makes you some times laugh out loud and sometimes just makes me shiver. It mix science and fiction into one and it WILL make you want to shut the book sometimes due to the descriptions of some parasites.

So lets get into the story now shall we? A parasite is spreading that turns people into Vampireish creature called Peeps. Cal is one of the few people who's immune to the full effect of the parasite but he do get most of the powers and abilities a peep get and he start to work for a company that hunt peeps down. We will follow his hunt on every ex girlfriends he had since he slept with the person who made him into what he is now, Morgan

This is not a regular vampire story where a vampire is this mystical creature, its a parasite disease. A quote on the back describes it really well;
 "The main thing to remember is that there's no magic involved. No flying, no transforming into bats or rats either. We're talking about a disease."

I usually turn a book down as soon as I hear the V-word, you know what I'm talking about guys. But this book is a real page turner even for a guy who usually dislike the vampire genre. I can also say that I did learn some stuff from this book since some chapters is almost plain facts about different parasites that does tie into the story, it's really interesting to read those chapters but you might not like them if you don't like to read about things that can be slightly disgusting.

I do recommend this book to people that like YA and vampire books.  If I had to say a age range, there's no max age of course but people under the age of 13 should maybe not read this since it can get quite scary for younger readers.

My rating for this book is 4/5, A great light read that you wont regret reading if you got the same taste as me. It's everything I want from a story. :)
