Jimmy Reads Gone by Michael Grant

Title and Author: Gone by Michael grant
First Release: 2008

Publisher: The first publisher in the US was HarperCollins, in the UK Egmont published the book.
Covers: To the left you can see the UK cover and to the right you can see the US cover.

Pages: In the UK release there is 560 pages.

So this is what's going on. : Fourteen year old Sam is sitting in a classroom just a regular day in school and one second his teacher's there but the next the teacher is gone all of the sudden. It turns out that everyone over the age of 15 have poofed away and no one seems to know where they are. The kids in this small town by the coast is trying to figure out what's going on when some students from a school with "special" kids show up and try to take over. During all this the kids and the animals in the zone to develop special abilities.

My thoughts: I liked this book a lot even though there was some parts that just made me go "Really now? Really?". The things that happens in this book is really creative and I do enjoy the way Grant tell this story, he never leaves you so bored that you just want to skip pages. As soon as something slows down he come up with new twist that will make everything exciting again. Some things close to the end really went out of hand, literary. It was like things was going pretty smooth forward then BAAAM everything that have happened in the book before came back just x15 times boosted. The most negative thing about this book was the fact that I didn't really get attached to the characters. The only one I got attached to was Lana and Jack, two characters who had a huge part in the story but none of them the main character. Sam and Astrid felt dull and boring. Sometimes I wouldn't even have noticed if Astrid died or lived. But the book is weight up by the action and fast phase that goes all through.

Would I recommend this book? To some people. Not everyone though. It does make me sad to have to give this book a rating of 3/5. Read this book if you want something fast phased action packed but do not if you want a book with a deep story telling with rich and lush characters. I know other reviews have gone all crazy and loved this book but for me it was a "meh" I have already bought Hunger and Lies, the second and third book of this series and I will read them in the future just to find out what happens next but I think I'll push them down some places on my to-be-read list.

P.s. Have in mind that this is the first book of a series that will be pretty many books, it might take a step up with the characters in the future but I wont rate the book more just because it's the first book in a series. I have to judge it for the content of just this one.

Jimmy Ask You! :]

FRIDAY! Comment question! :]
Hello :] I guess this will be my first "personal" post but yeah. I know I'm not the best blogger but I trying to post only what I think is the best that I can do better then that, so I ask of you who read this, what is your tips on becoming a better book blogger? :)

Right now I'm reading Gone by Michael Grant, It's awesome but for the first time in this blog I actually got some honest complaints but also praise for the book. After I've finished Gone which I will do tonight I will start reading The book thief by Markus Zusak! :) The review on Gone will probably be done on Sunday. That means it will be out on the blog next Monday. (I post the reviews one day after I've wrote them so that I can re-read it a couple of times and do last minutes changes before posting it.)

:)

Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind (REVIEW)

This is the first book of the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind! (I read the series as a part of my series new years resolution.)

Wizard's First Rule is the story of Richard Cypher and Kahlan Amnell. Kahlan travels into the Westlands from Midland through a magical boundary that seals magic of from the Westland in the search for Zedd, a old wizard. She want him to name a new seeker. A seeker is this powerful hero who will hopefully will save the world but it got to be the right person otherwise the seeker will turn into something non-human. When she's in Westland she bump into Richard. With his kind heart he help her from some pursues. Zedd name Richard the new seeker and now they have to get into Midand to stop Darken Rahl from getting the last Box of Orden which would make him the most powerful living "thing" alive. That's how this huge adventure begins I cant say much more without spoiling too much of the story. In this huge adventure they meet everything from shadow people to mud people, Mord'sith, Wizards, Witches, Confessors and many more creatures!

I loved this book! :) The love story in this book is really connected to how events turn out unlike a lot of other fantasy books where it is just a thing on the side to appeal to more people. I grew so attached to these characters that I almost cried when something happened to them, AND TRUST ME Terry Goodkind LOVE to torture his characters in all different ways torture can be done. Well I guess that sounds really depressing but the book is filled with these really unique positive motivational lines and a lot of one liners that can make you smile even though you should be hiding in you bed with fear.

For you people who have seen the TV-Series Legend of the seeker and liked it, you will definitely like this book because the TV-series have not spoiled you too much! It's like they are on their way to the same destination but take different roads to get there and the road that is called "Book Road" is a lot more epic and got different huge stores to stop by compared to "Television Avenue" which got A LOT of small stores that is completely different. In the end both roads meet... I hope you get what I mean!

Well as you might notice I did enjoy this book a lot. A extra + goes to the cover art (This goes for pretty much all the books) IT. IS. AMAZING! The artist who painted the cover art, Keith Parkinson have made illustrations for things such as EverQuest, Guardians and Magic:The Gathering. Due to the fact that he passed away in 2005 he did not make the cover art for all the books in the series but most of them.

I'd give this book a 5/5! It's an unique experience and a really good start for a series, I'm so excited to read the next one in February!... And come on! IT HAVE DRAGONS!

One of the quotes that I just LOVE from the book, It wont spoil anything and if you think it is spoiling don't worry there's many quotes like this;  “Sometimes, making the wrong choice is better than making no choice. You have the courage to go forward, that is rare. A person who stands at the fork, unable to pick, will never get anywhere.” Terry Goodkind, Wizard's First Rule.

Peeps by Scott Westerfeld (Review)

I read Peeps a while ago in school as a daily reading project and I just picked it up randomly. I do not regret picking it up, it was one of those books that just makes you some times laugh out loud and sometimes just makes me shiver. It mix science and fiction into one and it WILL make you want to shut the book sometimes due to the descriptions of some parasites.

So lets get into the story now shall we? A parasite is spreading that turns people into Vampireish creature called Peeps. Cal is one of the few people who's immune to the full effect of the parasite but he do get most of the powers and abilities a peep get and he start to work for a company that hunt peeps down. We will follow his hunt on every ex girlfriends he had since he slept with the person who made him into what he is now, Morgan

This is not a regular vampire story where a vampire is this mystical creature, its a parasite disease. A quote on the back describes it really well;
"The main thing to remember is that there's no magic involved. No flying, no transforming into bats or rats either. We're talking about a disease."

I usually turn a book down as soon as I hear the V-word, you know what I'm talking about guys. But this book is a real page turner even for a guy who usually dislike the vampire genre. I can also say that I did learn some stuff from this book since some chapters is almost plain facts about different parasites that does tie into the story, it's really interesting to read those chapters but you might not like them if you don't like to read about things that can be slightly disgusting.

I do recommend this book to people that like YA and vampire books.  If I had to say a age range, there's no max age of course but people under the age of 13 should maybe not read this since it can get quite scary for younger readers.

My rating for this book is 4/5, A great light read that you wont regret reading if you got the same taste as me. It's everything I want from a story. :)
