So this is what's going on. : Fourteen year old Sam is sitting in a classroom just a regular day in school and one second his teacher's there but the next the teacher is gone all of the sudden. It turns out that everyone over the age of 15 have poofed away and no one seems to know where they are. The kids in this small town by the coast is trying to figure out what's going on when some students from a school with "special" kids show up and try to take over. During all this the kids and the animals in the zone to develop special abilities.
My thoughts: I liked this book a lot even though there was some parts that just made me go "Really now? Really?". The things that happens in this book is really creative and I do enjoy the way Grant tell this story, he never leaves you so bored that you just want to skip pages. As soon as something slows down he come up with new twist that will make everything exciting again. Some things close to the end really went out of hand, literary. It was like things was going pretty smooth forward then BAAAM everything that have happened in the book before came back just x15 times boosted. The most negative thing about this book was the fact that I didn't really get attached to the characters. The only one I got attached to was Lana and Jack, two characters who had a huge part in the story but none of them the main character. Sam and Astrid felt dull and boring. Sometimes I wouldn't even have noticed if Astrid died or lived. But the book is weight up by the action and fast phase that goes all through.
Would I recommend this book? To some people. Not everyone though. It does make me sad to have to give this book a rating of 3/5. Read this book if you want something fast phased action packed but do not if you want a book with a deep story telling with rich and lush characters. I know other reviews have gone all crazy and loved this book but for me it was a "meh" I have already bought Hunger and Lies, the second and third book of this series and I will read them in the future just to find out what happens next but I think I'll push them down some places on my to-be-read list.
P.s. Have in mind that this is the first book of a series that will be pretty many books, it might take a step up with the characters in the future but I wont rate the book more just because it's the first book in a series. I have to judge it for the content of just this one.
Live long and prosper, Jimmy B
